About this Speaker

Nique Love Rhodes is a multi-hyphenate hip-hop artist and organizer/activist from Detroit, Michigan with the mission, musical and otherwise, to set souls on fire and contribute positive vibes in the world. Imagine the spirit of Bob Marley, the conscious content of a Lauryn Hill or Common with the confidence of Jay-Z, and you’ll barely scratch the surface of what she has to offer musically. Pulling from a wide variety of sounds and influences, Nique Love Rhodes creates music that is for the people to inspire the people. Infused with universal truths, Nique’s music elevates positive vibrations within the universal collective conscience, and promotes social awareness and responsibility. For her live show, Nique transforms from a conscious MC to a freedom-fighting rocker. Leading a multi-faceted ensemble of musicians know as the NLR Experience, her interactive shows fuse hip-hop music with jazz and rock to create a dynamic live musical experience a la the Roots meets Rage Against the Machine meets N.E.R.D. Nique has performed at major festivals and headlined venues including the South by Southwest Music Festival (Texas), the North by Northeast Music Festival (Toronto), Dally in the Alley (Detroit), and the famous Nuyorican Poets Café (New York City). Nique has independently released two studio albums - Against All Odds and The NLR Experience, which are both available on all streaming platforms. She is currently in production of an album series called LOVE US to be released later this year. While music with a positive message has been at the forefront Nique’s brand, she extends her passion to initiatives that are rooted in community and culture. She recently launched her nonprofit, Rise Up Higher, which uses music as a tool for social good. She is also the co-founder of D.Cipher, a music mastermind collective dedicated to advancing the Detroit music economy through collaboration and partnerships. As a cultural organizer, Nique seamlessly blends the worlds of music and activism through curating and producing events that infuse the arts into communities to advocate for and advance social justice initiatives as seen in her partnerships with CitizenDetroit and Creative Many Michigan. Nique Love Rhodes is a graduate of Spring Arbor University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Ministry.
